GWJ6: Out Of Place Cacti Mac OS

Posted on  by

Create copy of OSX VM you created earlier, store original in safe place; Change existing primary SCSI disk ID to 0:1; Add 'Mac OS X Lion Installer.vmdk' as SCSI ID 0:0 in non-persistent mode; Start VM; After installer is running select Utilities Disk Utility. Create new partition; Mac OS Extended; GUID Partition Table; Return to installer. The thing is there isn't much traffice in sense of many users. Cacti does not even show 10% cpu or ram usage, everything is on low usage on cacti graphs. I will change the values you mentioned above and let you know what happens. – shorif2000 Oct 17 '13 at 14:25.

Over the last 2 days I have been getting ready to deploy cacti in the office where I work. Currently we don't have any graphic or reporting at all so this is something that we really need. I've managed to successfully setup cacti under debian and ubuntu before so I figured this wouldn't be much different. I was wrong =P
The test box I am running this on is a 1Ghz G4 with 1GB of RAM running OS 10.4.7.
I started off by installing Xcode and darwin ports on the box. I then followed the instructions on http://cacti.darwinports.com/, installing mysql5 +server, then installing cacti and all dependencies. Overall this is what is running.
-Mac OS 10.4.7
Gwj6:-PHP 4.4.1 (installed on the box already)
-mysql5 5.0.24 installed via darwin ports
-Apache 1.3.33 (already installed on the box)
I attempted to use apache 2.2.3 installed via darwin ports however it decided to compile without PHP support so I removed it in favor of just trying to get this running.
the only step I have not currently completed is the editing of the root users crontab. Everything else has been done.
Here's the problem, when I go to 127.0.0.1/cacti/install/index.php I get the following error:

Gwj6: Out Of Place Cacti Mac Os 7

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /opt/local/share/cacti/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 355

it looks to me like it's trying to connect to the SQL db on the wrong socket (/var/mysql/mysqld.sock). I have updated my /private/etc/php.ini.default to reflect mysql.default_socket = /opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock, however php doesn't seem to care and wants to access my database through /var/mysql/mysqld.sock anyways =P

I tried adding a symbolic link at /var/mysql/mysqld.sock pointing to /opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock but I still get the same error. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for all of your help.First, I have a post on the Cacti Forum, it's been viewed 106 times with not a single response.
Second I have issued a bug at Mantis and being told this is a Gentoo problem I have returned to my best last hope of solving this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Third I have searched the archives at Cacti's website.
I have even gone as far as IRC on Freenode to look for help.
I have upgraded my Cacti to 0.8.6h_p20060108-r2. After this upgrade I patched like the Cacti website said to.
The problem is I can not change the title of graphs in cacti. Once I do change the title the graph responds to updates with
RRDTool Command:
/usr/bin/rrdtool graph -
--imgformat=PNG
--start=-86400
--end=-300
--title='7600 Frontier - Multilink PPP - Mu1'
--rigid
--base=1000
--height=120
--width=500
--alt-autoscale-max
--lower-limit=0
--vertical-label='bits per second'
--slope-mode

RRDTool Says:

I am losing my DEF's A and B after the name changing process.
I have seen https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-453786-highlight-cacti+title.html and performed the upgrade. Still only to have the graph turned non-viewable if the title is changed.
Is there a way to downgrade Cacti? The previous installed did not have this flaw. Is there strong cacti doctor in the house?? I must have the ability to change the title of these graphs
